Carl B. Johnson takes a journey to the seedy side of town, with this travelogue of pubs and drinking establishments. More original paintings of bars, both famous and unknown. More wisdom from the bar stool. More opinions from your favorite barfly that has no lack of words to say... Key West, New Orleans, Cape May, and locales more obscure - any bar stool provides Carl with fodder for his paintbrush and observations.
"SHORT STORIES - some shorter than other" is the third literary affront from Morel 'Mo' Pagano. The title says it all, short autobiographical stories about growing up in a rural Italian-American town; going to the Philadelphia Academy of Fine Arts; the early days of Jazz in Atlantic City and hanging out with the big name players and big bands; and how his family's values shaped his life.
Morel "Mo" Pagano is an every man. Artist, bricklayer, boxer, cook, world traveler. Mo takes the reader on a journey and proves that everybody, indeed, has a book. He traces his family roots from Italy to South America to New York City and finally to Newfield, NJ. He writes about his childhood during the Depression, his short career as a boxer, his stint in the military, Greenwich Village in the 1950's, the Philadelphia Academy and finally his life today, and what a great time it has been.
First, there was Inferno Newspaper. Then came Bar Exam, merely a reprint of the Bar Exam column from Inferno. Carl B. Johnson reprinted his hit column into one volume, with some major editing to make it somewhat cohesive. He included his bar series of paintings, and a publishing empire was begun!
Morel Pagano wrote a column for Inferno Newspaper throughout its life. The column became Mo's first book, Mo Knows. Interspersed with photographs and reproductions of his paintings, this full color book is a necessity for every library.
Inferno Newspaper had a happy seven-year life span. This full-color, 220 page volume includes the best of every issue, with new introductions by many of the regular contributors. A cult classic.
Our best seller. Carl B. Johnson and his partner, Liz Nicklus design and install large-scale mosaic murals. They teach mosaic workshops, and are always on the lookout for new books on the art of mosaics. Realizing that there were no books on the market on large-scale installations, they decided to use their experience and expertise to write a concise and helpful how-to.
This is the same bad-ass "INFERNO - burning the bridges behind us" that is available in full color, but at a reduced price because we saved money by not printing in color! If you are color-blind, this is the book for you! It has the same quality writing, and the same narrative of the rise and demise of a regional underground newspaper. Only this one is affordable!
